Hope

I'd thought I'd share some thoughts this week on something I believe is pretty important. It's that time of year when final college decisions are being made, and there's possibilities of being rejected. I know that my friends and I have been feeling the pressure hoping to be accepted into our dream school - and that's what prompted me to write about it. I was recently rejected from a school I really wanted to go to, and I had low expectations in the first place. On the other side, one of my best friends had her heart set on a school and wasn't accepted.

With two different situations, I thought I was the lucky one because I wasn't hurt as much. In reality, my best friend was the one who got it right by hoping. I know that in the future, there will be times where hope is the only thing that keeps people going. What would it be like to live life with low expectations? Without hope, people would give up, and with faith and believing, people will always keep trying. I know that this was just about college acceptance letters, but everyone always faces hard times. I think that it's the ones who still hope after being hurt who are the strongest.

See you soon,

ps. Next week I will be on a road trip from Michigan to Alabama, and I can't wait to share it with you!

Love and Beauty (Forever 21) Makeup Sponge

It's always those little cute items right next to the register that get me every single time. I was just about to check out at Forever 21 and I saw the cutest thing. It was this makeup sponge for only $3.80, and I was instantly interested if they were at all similar to the Beauty Blender. I have never used the Beauty Blender ($15+) before, but I was still curious if this would work with my liquid or mousse foundations.
There weren't really any directions to how to use it, but I figured it would be the same idea as the Beauty Blender; run it under warm water, squeeze out the excess water, and apply foundation. Simple, right? The first thing I noticed however was that it didn't really become softer after running it under the water, and it didn't become bigger in size. At all. I still had a teeny tiny bit of hope, so I tried applying it with my thin L'oreal Magic Nude Powder foundation.

Before and after running it under water. I didn't notice too much change *sad face*

I was pretty disappointed with how it worked. First of all, the sponge against my skin was so dense and uncomfortable. It just felt like pressing a rubber ball onto my face over and over while it absorbed all of my product, so I kept having to pour out more. The over outcome was actually pretty nice and natural looking, but it was not all worth it for how long it took. I did also try this with my Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation, and this worked a bit better, but it was very unsanitary. After I used it, I washed it with warm water and my Purity face wash. Most of the product did come out of the sponge, but it just stains the sponge making it look dirty.  Overall, I'd stay away from this sponge just because there are many more drugstore dupes that are much better than this- like Sonia Kashuk and even Ulta! I'm definitely going to try those next! :)

Outfit // Lost Spring

Oh how I love and hate Michigan. From its beautiful scenery, changing temperatures, and abundance of pot holes, it has me feeling hot and cold (literally).  Right now it's the awkward stage in between seasons where the once fluffy snow is now brown slush - and it's everywhere. On this day, it was two of my best friend's birthdays, and it was just a casual get together. Right before we left, my friend Sarah took pictures in front her house and it was freezing (she was in the last fashion post). This was very comfortable and warm enough, but different from my usual t shirt and jeans.

I absolutely love these moss green pants from h&m because they're unique and tuck nicely into my combat boots - which I wear everyday. Seriously. As for the navy blue sweater, I liked the combination of the understated green and blue. My favorite part about this outfit however are the accessories. I kept it simple, but I liked the layering of the gold necklaces. The shorter one is from Rachel Roy and says "choose love" (a meaningful quote to me), and the longer chain is a mini engraved heart locket from Topshop. I like to believe that they were made to wear together.

Sweater - Ann Taylor Loft Similar
Pants - h&m Exact
Combat Boots - Zigi Soho (Nordstrom Rack) Exact
Choose Love Necklace - Rachel Roy (Macy's) Similar
Locket - Topshop Similar
Bag - Fossil Exact

Hopefully the weather is much nicer wherever you live.... As always, thanks for reading!

See you soon,

Simple Dinner - Corn Pasta and Kielbasa!

On school nights, there's always little time to prepare a healthy and delicious meal. So when my mom and I make something like this, we make a lot. I have never tried corn pasta before, and we bought a big box that came with four packages. I'm not a huge fan of the typical pasta, but I love the brown rice pasta from Trader Joe's. I found that when cooking this, you really have to keep a look out on the pasta while boiling it because it can go from perfectly al dente to mush in seconds. Otherwise, I quite liked the corn pasta!

With the Kielbasa, I have only eaten this a couple of times in the past, but you can always substitue or eliminate the protein in this recipe. I'm sure chicken, shrimp, or beef would be delicious as well. ANd trust me, this recipe is very simple but yummy. With a side salad, this is the perfect meal!

Ingredients
Pasta - I used Fusilli Corn Pasta
Kielbasa (optional)
Onions
Olive Oil (or coconut oil)
Sea Salt + Pepper
Desired Seasoning (I love Mrs.Dash)
Parmesan Cheese

Directions:

-Boil water and add pasta. While the pasta is cooking, cook Kielbasa in a skillet with olive oil and brown both sides.
-Add onions to the skillet and cook until caramelized and translucent. (my favorite!)
-Drain pasta and put a single portion on a serving plate. Drizzle with olive oil, add seasonings and cheese.
-Finally, add the kielbasa and onions!

I keep the rest of the plain pasta in the fridge and warm it up with some tomato sauce or the exact same recipe as above. I hope you enjoyed my first non dessert recipe on the blog! Thanks for reading :)

See you soon,

My Top 10 Beauty Youtubers

Well this is how it all started. I remember being in 7th grade watching my first beauty video, and I fell in love. Five years later I still watch videos daily and sometimes, they're even better than tv! Today, I'll be discussing ten of my favorite beauty "gurus" (such a weird word), and why I adore them so much. Let's be honest, I will probably end up doing another list because there are so many amazing people I love to watch...

10. freshblush
Erin is about the same age as me, and I find her videos to be so easy to relate to! Her personality is absolutely adorable, and I love her tutorials (and her freckles). She's someone you'd want to be friends with.

Favorite Video: Fresh Pink Lemonade Makeup

9. Missglamorazzi
I find that Ingrid's videos are always so well thought out and edited nicely. I never ever find my myself skipping through her videos, and she always has on beautiful makeup that's still natural looking. (And I love pandas too!)
(youtube.com)

8. ARose186
Oh. my. gosh. Arden's style and everything that she does is so beautiful. If I had a store to describe her, it would be Anthropologie for sure. Everything that she says is hilariously witty and I find her voice overs are the BEST.

Favorite Video: Everyday Summer Makeup

7. Tanya Burr
What's better than a great British youtuber? Tanya is insanely talented and knowledgeable about everything beauty related, and it's been so awesome to see her grow. She's always bright in all of her videos, and watching them makes me think she is a great hugger. Seriously. Don't forget to check out her Lip Gloss and Nail Polish line here!

6. Amarixe
Allison's eye shadow tutorials might be the best I've ever seen. They're easy to follow and always very creative! I don't really know what else to say about her other than that I'm so happy whenever she posts a new video!

5. jaclynhill
I LOVE JACLYN. Again, another person that is so talented with makeup. I love how passionate and excited she gets about beauty, and it shows so much. I can easily watch a video by her that is twenty five minutes long and not even realize it...
(pinterest.com)
Favorite Video: How To: Contour

4. MakeupByAlli
Alli is definitely an old favorite, and I really look up to how she talks and presents herself in a very professional way. Her makeup is always flawless, and she pulls of everything she wears. But mostly, her talk through tutorials and reviews are the best, and Alli's refreshing to watch!

Favorite Video: 2013 Beauty Favorites

3. MichellePhan
Of course I just have to mention Michelle - her videos were the first ones that I saw. I always learn so much from her tutorials, and they are straight to the point. I have no words to describe how mind blowing it is that she has her own makeup line. What a role model.

Favorite Video: Sailor Moon Transformation

2. TheMakeupChair
Sinead's videos are so cute in how they're edited and filmed. And really, her Irish accent is too adorable for words. Her channel is definitely more tutorial based, but that's what I love about her!

Favorite Video: Birthday Makeup Tutorial

1.Essiebutton
Estee (or Essie) is actually a more recent discovery of mine, and I can't believe on what I have been missing out on! She is probably the funniest person ever, and I love how simple her videos are. I can't get enough of her, and I love it when she makes long videos! Don't forget to check out her amazing blog as well here!

Favorite Video: Brand Focus: Tarte

I was pleasantly surprise at how much I loved writing this post! I'm in the works of another list for my favorite fashion/lifestyle youtubers, and of course, comedy. It was so hard to make this list, and I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. Who are some of your favorite beauty youtubers?

As always, thanks for reading,

Stephanie x
