10 Youtube Covers (that are better than the original)

Back in the day when I started watching youtube in middle school, I was really into musicians. I loved seeing music people made before all of the fancy equipment - they just used the cameras on their computer. It's pretty crazy that people are now getting record deals and becoming "real" musicians from youtube. There are so many talented artists, and I can't wait to share some of my favorite covers that I think could be better than the original! I've listened to these artists as much as any artist on on the Top 40, and it's SO refreshing.
Boyce Avenue - Everything by Lifehouse

Daniela Andrade - I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie

Whinnie Williams - Bills, Bills, Bills by Destiny's Child

Conor Maynard - Marvin's Room by Drake

Alex G + Jon D - Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift Ft. Ed Sheeran

Alex Goot + Against the Current - Good Time by Owl City + Carly Rae Jepsen

Daniela Andrade - Youth by Daughter

Alex G + Jon D - We Are Young by Fun.

Tyler Ward - Somewhere With You by Kenny Chesney

Boyce Avenue + Kina Grannis - Fast Car by Tracy Chapman

I don't know what I'd do without music. The relationships I've made through music classes, joy, and my relationship with God has only grown with the help of music. I used to roadtrip to Chicago more when I was younger, and I would listen to the same CDs on my CD player daydreaming about the world. I hope you enjoy these covers as much as I do!

Friends buy you food. Best friends eat your food.

The food scene in college has seriously changed my eating habits, and I'm here with another list of articles that MSU Spoon University has published! If you're in college or about to attend college, Spoon is a great student run organization to be involved in writing, photography, and marketing. There's a couple of really fun recipes, reviews, and a quiz! Seriously, if you're interested at all in getting involved, you can start your own chapter at your school!

All You Need Is Your Microwave And Fridge To Make These Life Changing Pinwheels
(fun fact: this whole recipe was made in a dorm room!)

This Frozen Matcha Green Tea Smoothie Is The Best Way To Start Your Morning
(fun fact: this only has THREE ingredients!)

We Tried The Craziest Nut Butters You're Too Afraid To Buy In Store, Here's What We Found (did you know there's chai nut butter?)

Who's Your Celeb Spirit Foodie? (isn't Selena Gomez's everyone's crush?)

Tavern and Tap Is Lansing's Best Destination for Craft Brews and Hip Vibes (why am I not 21)

Why Cheating On Starbucks With Grand River Coffee Is So Worth It [yesssss]

Let me know which article is your favorite, and who your celeb sprit foodie is! I wrote the one about green tea, and it was so much fun to make. Somehow in college, the love for food has just MULTIPLIED. I have finals in two weeks, and food will definitely become my new best friend. Have a great weekend!

5 Things I'll Miss About College

I cannot believe that I'll be moving out of my dorm room in less than TWO weeks! I feel like I just moved in yesterday, and I'm definitely not prepared for finals yet...Even though I'll be happy to be home and have a shower with decent water pressure, there will some things that I'll miss about living on campus.

1. The Community: Being surrounded by people 24/7 is a lot better than you think. Even for an introvert like me, one quick text of "hey, wanna get lunch?" is so fast and easy to hang out with someone. Compared to high school, friendships in college happen so much faster because you can hang out all. the. time.

2. Easy Access To Food: GAH. I will surely miss this. Although dining hall food has begun to become old, when I go home even getting out cereal and milk takes more effort than at school. I'll have to re-teach myself how to cook meals and not to be lazy when it comes to eating!

3. Clean-ish Bathrooms: I have community bathrooms which I share with everyone in my hall - and although it's not the cleanest and the water is filled with so much iron-y metal, I don't have to keep it clean. When I go home, I have to clean the mirrors, bathtub, and....toilet.

4. Endless Things To Do: There's always something to do in college. Whether it's free events or just watching a movie with a friend, it's rare that I'm bored. I know living at home can be so boring after awhile, and I'll miss all of the hustle and bustle.

5. New Friends: This is by far what I'll miss the most. I've met some pretty great people this year, and it'll be sad to leave as some are moving to apartments and different areas. Even though some of my friends don't live too far from me back at home, it just won't be the same. I'll miss their encouragement and laughs SO much. You know who you are!

With the end of my freshman year already coming to a close, college goes by so much faster than high school. And that just means I'm enjoying it more!

Bright Floral Nails

The sun is finally shining, and that's my cue to breakout the brighter nail polish! It's been so nice to see everyone outside, and it literally looks like the picturesque college brochure I imagined when i was applying. It can be hard for me to find the perfect peachy polish that isn't too bright, since it can clash with my skin tone sometimes. I bought all three of these China Glaze colors for 2.50 each! (I talk about it in my discounted beauty post). Yay for flowers blooming and bright colors! I just feel happier - one can only take the cold weather for so long.

I'm no pro when it comes to nail art, but I finally tried using a bobby pin to make some simple flowers! I absolutely loved how it turned out, and that they don't all look the same. I cannot wait to mix and match different colors with these same flowers this summer!

You're all I need

I'm so excited to bring you another music playlist! Music has and always will be such an important part of my life, and my heart happy to discover new artists and songs. Last weekend, I went on a retreat to a beautiful camp with Cru, and my favorite part was worshipping with 200 other people on the lakeshore. There's something about worship that brings me that much closer to God that I just can't explain. Here are some of my personal favorites that bring me peace. (just a side note: not all of these are "worship"songs!) I hope you all enjoy!
How He Loves - David Crowder Band
Everything - Lifehouse
Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) - Hillsong United
Scandal of Grace - Hillsong United
Come Thou Font - All Sons and Daughters
Love is War - Hillsong United
The Great I Am - Philips Craig and Dean
In My Arms - Plumb
Cut - Plumb
As always, click here for the entire playlist! 8tracks is such an amazing website. Please let me know any of your current favorite songs, worship or not! I'd love to hear from you.

Bright Eyes

Morning's just aren't my thing. Even though I love waking up to the sunshine and being productive with my day, my bed is just so much softer (and it's just a great time to watch Netflix) in the morning. Mondays and Wednesdays are by far the hardest since I have early classes, and it can be SO difficult to get out of bed. On those days, I love using these couple of fast + easy products that make me look like I'm more excited about my advertising class than I actually am.

Laura Mercier Secret Concealer: A little goes a very long way with this concealer, as it has a slight salmon shade that covers purple tones. It's a bit of an investment, but it's lasted me months.
Benefit They're Real Mascara: Even though this is a PAIN to take off, it works wonders and holds a curl. Mascara is my #1 for opening up my eyes!
NYX Wonder Pencil - Light: One of the few neutral colored eyeliners at the drugstore, it's amazing on the waterline to make you look like you had (at least) 6 1/2 hours of sleep.
MAC Paint Pot - Soft Ochre: This is essential for covering darkness on the eyelid, which makes a big difference (let me know of any drugstore dupes!).
Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner: One of the best pen eyeliners ever, this has lasted me months for only $8. I only put eyeliner to my top lashline to open up my eyes, as it contrasts with the peach liner on my waterline.

How do you wake yourself up in the morning? (Breakfast is my motivator)

Love Shack, Baby Shake Shack

Even though I mostly write about healthy food (which I love), I love trying gourmet burgers. So when I went to Chicago last week, we stopped at Shake Shack which was conveniently located one block from Michigan Ave, or the 'Magnificent Mile'. I'd definitely heard of Shake Shack before I went to Chicago, and I was SO excited to finally try it out.

We got there at 10:50am, ten minutes before they actually opened because we were so hungry after shopping and eating a small breakfast. (10:50 is still technically breakfast time oops). Thankfully, they let us in early,  andI ordered the classic Shackburger and fries. Since we got there early, I don't think the heat was on yet because it was SO cold. But only 5 minutes later, our food was ready, and in just twenty minutes after opening, every table was filled, and the line was getting realllllly long.

okay but the green tissue paper is actually really cute like I'd actually use them in gift bags.

The burger itself was great because the meat was juicy, the bun was sweet and fluffy, and there were the perfect amount of vegetables. I know there's a special Shake Shack sauce, and it was flavorful with just the amount of spice. I still have not been to Chick-Fil-A or In-N-Out, but I have been to Five Guys. I liked the burger better at Shake Shack because it was less soggy than Five Guys, but I will say Five Guy's fries are crunchier....but that's definitely not saying that Shake Shack's fries weren't good because I still ate them ALL. My total was $9 without a drink, and I'd say it's a pretty good deal for great food in the city. I would highly recommend everyone to try this restaurant for the fast service, and also the vegetarian options as well! It's the perfect stop and go place while shopping all day.

My next stop: Umami Burger.

A Day In Chicago

your stereotypical tourist

A couple friends and I headed to Chicago last Saturday, and we left at 4:45 am (I'm NOT a morning person). I literally decided to go at 1am the night before, because why not? We drove a couple hours to the train station, and then rode the train to the city since we didn't have to deal with the over priced parking. I've been to Chicago many times, but it's always fun to go to my favorite city and try out new restaurants and see new stores that have popped up. Running on two hours of sleep, we made it back at around 2am, but it was all worth it. I just wish more people could've come in one car, but it's nice that it's only a couple of hours away - Chicago will ALWAYS be one of my favorite cities.
we got to the train station a whole hour early because they were on central time...oops.

forever 21 store displays are always so much prettier in the city!

a little coffee shop called sunny side up! (the food was okay, but this sign was too cute)

loft is love.

of course, we got some deep dish stuffed pizza from giordanos..and I forgot to take pictures until we started eating because it was delicious! (not sure if it's better than lou manati's though)

our last stop was dylan's candy bar, and we got SO many free samples - I think I almost passed out from a sugar overload.

As always, Chicago was a amazing, even though no one got any sleep. I only bought a couple of items, but I can't wait to come again to visit some family/friends. Navy Pier is especially beautiful during the summertime.

Let me know your favorite spots in Chicago or your favorite city!

What Every Foodie Needs

I am so excited to share with you a place that every foodie will just fall in LOVE with. At Michigan State University, I'm in a student organization called Spoon University - the hub for all things food related. There are many other college chapters that are also a part of this exciting project, and I am a writer on the team. From recipes, reviews, tips, and entertaining articles, it's sort of like buzzfeed (but it's all about food.)
Here's two of the articles I wrote (with a great editor and photographer!). None of these pictures were taken by me!

Oh how He loves us

Recently I just read a post on darcymae, and I felt she was literally taking the words out of my mouth. I couldn't believe how I related to it SO much. Everything she talked about hit home for me: people pleasing, judgements, and acceptance. My faith is something that I have not discussed a lot on my blog for a variety of reasons. Sometimes I just can't put into words what I want to say, I'm afraid of turning people away, and it's the most personal relationship to me in the entire world. It will always be scary to be vulnerable.

There are so many things that have made my freshman year at college be one of my favorite years in a long, long time. Even though I think I have figured out my major (more on that soon), it doesn't even matter because I've never felt like I should be "living in the moment" until now. Going to a school with 50,000+ people, any conversation is an opportunity for new friendships, and you meet new people everyday. There aren't enough words to thank God for everything that He's done for me. He put so many different people into my life, and it's amazing that I've become so close with people in such a short amount of time. I can't believe He loves me so much in ways that my mind cannot comprehend, and He sent his own son to die for me. (Like what?) If that's not the coolest thing you've ever heard I don't know what is. I know that in this day in age, having a faith or religion can be ridiculed. And I would never ever ever ever want to preach to anyone and make them uncomfortable, even if it was with good intentions. I'm in NO way better than you just because I'm a Christian. I would love to keep my mind open wide and never judge someone, because having a one track mind can be so limiting.

I'm not sure I even understand if this post or if the organization made any sense at all, but if there's one thing to take from this is that to love God, love others. My friend Stephanie said that last week (yeah we're twins) and I loved it so much. I hope you all have a great Easter!
